I think it's one of those highly subjective quotes. Faced with a difficult challenge, you resign to fate. But you take a step back and realize that you may not want to go through life being led by the nose by something known as 'fate'.
So you start to ponder, could I make something that was once impossible possible? Or it was possible all along and the 'impossibleness' was just something you came up with to feel better about yourself.
If moderation is key, then I think it's all about understanding oneself and one's limits. If you can, you can. If you can't, learn to let go.
